WINE TASTE @ VINTAGE ESTATE WINE AND BEER, BOARDMAN, OHIO
This taste will have Organic wine featured with organic appetizers. It is from 4pm-7pm March 19. They will kick off their Hunger Campaign with a collection of canned foods. Ticket price is $20 but if you bring along 3 or more canned goods the price is lowered to $15. Where else can you go for a wine taste...get a generous sampling of 6 wines....+ tons of appetizers for that price?

HOMEMADE CLEMENTINE WINE
This recipe was emailed to me the other day to try. Perhaps I will. My son loves Clementines and has learned to make a fabulous Clementine Cake which is to die for! If the wine is as good as the cake then it should be a spectacular offering to give as gifts. I just may have to try this one!
1 gallon water
24 Clementines
10 Valencia oranges
1 lb extra fine granulated sugar
1 teaspoon citric acid
1 teaspoon pectic enzyme
¼ teaspoon tannin
1 teaspoon yeast nutrient
1 package Champagne wine yeast
Mix sugar and water in large pot.
Bring to boil.
Peel all Clementines and Valencias and save the zest from 10 of the Clementines.
Section the fruit and remove any pith.
Place zest and sections in a nylon mesh straining bag.
Close bag with a tie and mash fruit in a primary fermentation container.
Pour boiling sugar water over fruit and stir.
Let liquid cool until room temperature.
Add citric acid, pectic enzyme, tannin, and yeast nutrient to container.
Cover and let sit for 12 hours.
Remove cover, add activated Champagne wine yeast, and cover again.
Stir daily for 10 days.
Remove bag from container and pour liquid into secondary fermentation container.
Seal with airtight lock lid and ferment.
Skim froth, as necessary.
When froth ceases to form, rack and place into bottles.
Rack again every two months for one year.
Age an additional year before enjoying.

DISCONTINUED WINES IN PA.now is the time to stock up!
The LCB in PA has decided to discontinue from their shelves 400 wine & spirit products. My favorite box wine is among the list. It is highlighted below. So off to the store I went to stock up after Gaynor told me of her findings. I am spreading the word to all my friends who drink this wine. Upon my researching this I found there are many items in the wine stores in PA being discontinued. Below is the list provided from the news article I read. The state purges its list every 2 years. So if any of your favorites are on the list (not only wines) now is the time to stock up at these low, low prices. With uncontrolable gas prices going up we may as well be able to save in one area of our budget.

BOTA BOX WINE....OLD ZIN
Boda Box...Old Vine Zin....dark & fruity with spicy scents of blackberries and plums. The acids and the tannins are so well balanced in this wine that it is quickly becoming my favorite these days! I am finding that it goes well not only with a meal of pasta with heavenly tomato sauce but also with New York White Cheddar & crackers, hummus or even my favorite chocolate bar. It is certainly a wine for many occasions and appetites.
The Bota Box is also environmentally friendly. Studies on boxed wines have proven that boxed wines use 85% landfill waste than traditional glass bottles. The box is not only recyclable but it is also green. It is made 100% from recycled paper. The paper layers are held together with cornstarch and not glue. All ink is soy & not Petroleum based.

So whether you like red or white wine, when you choose Bota Box it doesn't matter because they are both green!
Earth day is April 22, 2011 so Bota Box is doing their part by throughout the month of April they are donating a percentage of all sales to the Arbor Day Foundations restoration program with a minimum goal of $20,000. The also will donate $1 for each person who becomes a fan on their facebook page. Bota Box holds the equivalent of 4 bottles of wine and will remain fresh for 45 days.
